Today in 1982, the "Highways & Heartaches" album by Ricky Skaggs was released.
Today in 1983, a then-unknown singer-songwriter Kix Brooks made his debut on the country charts with the song "Baby, When Your Heart Breaks Down." The song was a failure -- it only reached number 73. But his career eventually turned around. Exactly eight years later -- in September 1991 -- Brooks' was at the top of the chart with new partner Ronnie Dunn, as Brooks & Dunn's first single, "Brand New Man," went to number one.
Today in 1988, the first Elvis Presley credit card was issued.
Today in 1998, Mac Davis received star number two-thousand-117 on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
