Rochester Teen Given Maximum Sentence In Murder
(Rochester, NY) -- A Rochester teen is off to prison for 25 years to life after being handed the maximum sentence for murder. Prosecutors say 18-year-old Dwayne Garcia was just 16 when he shot and killed 24-year-old Jamel Scott on Avenue B on September 2nd of 2008. Scott was sitting on the porch of a home when Garcia crept up and shot him in the head. At yesterday's sentencing the judge called it an execution. Scott had just survived a previous shooting just one week before his death. Authorities say in late August of 2008, he was shot in the hand and chest while trying to catch a ride home from Greece. Garcia says he is innocent and his lawyers plan to appeal.
