Joe Perry: I Don't Want Aerosmith's Name Involved In "Idol"
Joe Perry is speaking out as the world awaits confirmation that Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler is joining the FOX hit, "American Idol." Perry told "The Calgary Herald" that he wants to keep a distance between the Boston rock band and "Idol." The guitarist said of Tyler's possible TV gig, quote, "It's his business, but I don't want Aerosmith's name involved with [American Idol]. We have nothing to do with it." Perry continued, quote, "[Idol] is a reality show designed to get people to watch that station and sell advertising...it's one step above Ninja Turtles." Perry's comments were made as Aerosmith wraps up the final dates of its "Cocked, Locked, and Ready to Rock!" tour. The band's playing North American dates through next Thursday, September 16th. That's when Aerosmith is scheduled to rock Vancouver's Rogers Arena. To date, FOX executives have not announced Tyler as an "Idol" judge. The 62-year-old is one of a few names in the mix for the high-profile judges' panel, however. Pop star Jennifer Lopez and rocker Bret Michaels are also among the names that have been tossed around. "American Idol" will kick off its tenth season on January 12th, 2011.
