Dixie Chick Natalie Maines Optimistic For West Memphis Three
The Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines is among the celebrities who continue to support the West Memphis Three. Later this month the Arkansas Supreme Court is expected to hear arguments regarding new DNA evidence that has surfaced in the case, and during an appearance on CNN's "Larry King Live," Maines said she's confident justice will be done. The West Memphis Three case dates back to 1993, in which three then-teenagers -- Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley Jr., and Jason Baldwin -- were found guilty of killing three young boys. Their convictions have sparked controversy, and their supporters believe the discovery of new DNA evidence will make the difference. Maines actually played a role in unearthing the new evidence. Her outspoken support for the West Memphis Three resulted in Terry Hobbs -- the stepfather to one of the young murdered boys -- launching a defamation lawsuit two years ago. While that case has since been tossed out of court, depositions in the civil case led investigators to the new DNA evidence.
