Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder Championing West Memphis Three And Justice
Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder is among the stars who continues to champion the cause of the West Memphis Three. During an appearance on CNN's "Larry King Live," he noted that while the defendants might have been wrongly convicted it's important to continue to believe in the U.S. justice system. He added that it's also the responsibility of those in the justice system to fix any mistakes. The West Memphis Three case dates back to 1993, in which three then-teenagers -- Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley Jr., and Jason Baldwin -- were found guilty of killing three young boys. Their convictions have sparked controversy, and their supporters -- which includes the rocker -- believe the discovery of new DNA evidence will ultimately lead to an overturning of their conviction. While previous attempts to have the case reopened in light of this new evidence have been unsuccessful, the Arkansas Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments on the matter on September 30th.
