Ono Visits John Lennon's Childhood School
It looks like John Lennon's legacy is living on in his old hometown almost 30 years after his death. The late Beatle's widow, Yoko Ono, was in Liverpool on Friday. UK newspaper "The Sun" reports that the 77-year-old Ono was there to open the Sure Start children's center at Dovedale -- Lennon's childhood school. During her visit to Dovedale, Ono said of Lennon, quote, "He was a very sweet and gentle person at home. He would make an effort and he would say, 'Love is something you have to water every day.' I don't know how he knew this - but I was lucky to have someone like that with me."
John Lennon would have turned 70 years old this October 9th. Regarding the milestone, Ono said, quote, "This is John's 70th birthday year and he is not here, but his spirit is still here. I am celebrating the opening of the Sure Start children's center and it is a nice way of celebrating John's 70th. I have such an emotion for Liverpool."
In related news, Lennon's killer -- Mark David Chapman -- is expected to go before a New York parole board again this week. The Attica inmate's review was postponed last month as the parole board assigned to his case awaited additional information. Chapman was convicted of gunning down Lennon on December 8th, 1980 in front of the music legend's Manhattan home. |
