In 1972 David Bowie released the song "John, I'm Only Dancing" in the UK. It was another four years before the song was released in the U.S. because of its supposedly gay lyrics. In 1977 Blondie signed to Chrysalis Records. The company bought their original two albums and recording contract from the independent label Private Stock. In 1979 U2 released their first EP, "U2-3," in Ireland. In 1983 The Clash asked Mick Jones to leave the group. Joe Strummer and the other members felt that the guitarist was drifting away from the original concept for the band. Jones soon resurfaced in Big Audio Dynamite. In 1987 Los Lobos hit number one on the pop singles chart with "La Bamba." In 1989 U2's Adam Clayton was spared conviction in an Irish court of marijuana possession when he admitted to the crime and agreed to give money to a women's center in Dublin. In 1993 "Newsweek" magazine reported that Guns N' Roses singer Axl Rose and Frank Sinatra were considering performing together for Sinatra's "Duets" album. In 1995 The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum was dedicated in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1998 David Bowie launched his Bowienet online community. In 2002 Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett was injured in a surfing accident, which forced him to stop playing guitar for two weeks. In 2003 Jet was denying rumors the group had signed a three-million-dollar deal with Elektra Records. In 2004 U2's Bono was at the Republican National Convention in New York to drum up support for debt relief and the fight against AIDS in Africa. Incubus and Los Lonely Boys were among the performers at the Latin Grammy Awards. In 2005 The lease expired on the New York City club CBGB, with the club owner and property management unable to come to a new rental agreement. However, arrangements were made to keep the venue open beyond the original lease terms, and the club is now expected to close on September 30th, 2006. Great White cancelled the remaining shows on the band's tour, citing undisclosed "medical reasons." In 2006 My Chemical Romance had to cancel dates in Allentown, Pennsylvania and Syracuse, New York because drummer Bob Bryar was hospitalized with a staph infection following treatment for burns he suffered several weeks earlier in a video shoot. In 2008 Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello joined country singer Steve Earle at a union rally in St. Paul which coincided with the first day of the Republican National Convention. AC/DC's new song "Rock 'n' Roll Train" was featured in ads that began running for the CBS drama "Criminal Minds." In 2009 Former Echo And The Bunnymen keyboardist Jake Brockman died in a motorcycle accident on the UK's Isle Of Man. He was 53.<
