Sir Paul Urges NASA Not To Use Monkeys For Research
Sir Paul McCartney is urging NASA to reconsider its use of monkeys for research. In a letter posted on the PETA.org website, the former Beatle wrote that he's concerned about the space agency's plans to gauge the effects of space travel by exposing squirrel monkeys to radiation. McCartney -- who's a longtime supporter of space exploration -- wrote, quote, "I believe NASA has the ingenuity to investigate the health effects of space travel without confining and experimenting on animals as was done in the old days. It would be terribly disappointing if in our zeal to explore new frontiers and to learn about the fascinating universe where we live we began to regress in our treatment of the animals with whom we share this planet." McCartney isn't the only one voicing concern about the testing. A number of experts and former engineers have spoken out about the NASA's current research plans.
