SXSW Stars Celebrate Big Star's Chilton
The death of Alex Chilton did not deter Saturday night's Big Star reunion show at South By Southwest. Instead, it turned into a musical tribute to salute the singer's memory. Band members Ken Stringfellow, Jon Auer and Jody Stephens decided to pay homage to Chilton by performing with many of the musicians he inspired. M. Ward was the first to sign on. He was joined during the special evening by Meat Puppet's Curt Kirkwood, X's John Doe, The dB's Chris Stamey, R.E.M.'s Mike Mills, Lemonheads' Evan Dando, Chuck Prophet, Sondre Lerche, Susan Cowsill, and The Watson Twins.
Chilton died of a heart attack on Wednesday, March 17th at age 59. He is survived by his wife, son, and sister. |
