Suspect In Teen Murder Due In Court
(Rochester, NY) -- The alleged triggerman who gunned down a Rochester teenager is scheduled to be in court today to face the charges. Authorities say 20-year-old Harry Williams is accused of fatally shooting 15-year-old Christopher Newton Tuesday night. Newton was taken off life support on Thursday and died from his injuries. Police say Williams was initially charged with assault and weapons possession but it is likely the assault charge will upgraded to seond-degree murder. Investigators say two groups of girls were involved in an argument at the corner of Central Park and Fifth Street prior to the shooting. One of the participants called Newton to come to the scene. Police say he arrived with his mother and other family members and was allegedly shot in the eye. Investigators say they are still sorting through the details to see if Newton was the intended target. It is the city's seventh homicide of the year. Newton was in the eighth grade at the School of International Finance and Economic Development at the Franklin Educational Campus. School officials say grief counselors will be on hand today. |
