Manager For Mothers Of Invention, Waits Dead At 77
Veteran music manager Herb Cohen has died. Variety.com reports that Cohen passed away in Napa, California on Tuesday at age 77 of unknown causes. Cohen launched his career in Los Angeles where he booked acts and laid the groundwork for his later career as a manager. Frank Zappa's band, the Mothers of Invention, and singer-songwriter Tom Waits are among the acts he managed. Cohen also teamed up with Zappa to distribute music independently through their own labels. Among the artists distributed by Cohen and Zappa's imprints were Tim Buckley and Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band.
