RIT Student Sets Off Campus Alert System
(Rochester, NY) -- A Rochester Institute of Technology student is undergoing mental health counseling after setting off the campus-wide alert system for a possible suicidal situation. Authorities say they received an out-of-state 911 call early Wednesday from someone concerned that the student might be armed and looking to hurt himself. Police contacted the school which in turn sent out electronic messages to students and parents telling them to stay inside. Authorities say officers caught up with the student after he contacted police. Cops say the man was not armed and was cooperative. A spokesperson for the school says the alert was distributed as a precaution as the situation unfolded. |
