Biffy Clyro Relate To Nirvana; GNR Not So Much
The members of Biffy Clyro say they're fans of both Nirvana and Guns N' Roses. But bassist James Johnston notes that they can't really relate to the more flashy '80s hair metal band, but they identify with the pioneering grunge group. He explains that while Axl Rose and his band mates presented themselves as rock stars, they saw Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl as just a group of guys who made music.
Johnston adds that they even see geographic similarities between Nirvana's hometown of Aberdeen, Washington, and Biffy Clyro's origins in Kilmarnock, Scotland. He notes that both places are located on their countries' Northwest coasts, and they both have rainy climates. Meanwhile, Johnston points out that Guns N' Roses are from sunny Southern California.
Biffy Clyro just released their latest CD "Only Revolutions," in the U.S., and is supporting the album with a North American trek. The group is on the road with Manchester Orchestra. Their next show will be in Kansas City, Missouri on Friday. |
