Residents Rally To Save Village Of Brockport
(Brockport, NY) -- Some Brockport residents don't want to see the end of the village. About 50 residents rallied Thursday to oppose a recent movement seeking to dissolve the more than 180-year-old local government. The pro-Brockport folks say the 81-hundred residents would lose their identity in a move they say would not save money. The group seeking to eliminate the village says it has collected signatures from more than 20-percent of residents, meaning the issue would be sent to a referendum for a vote. Those who support the move say it could help reduce taxes, which they say are the second highest in Monroe County. If approved the Village of Brockport would be swallowed up by the Town of Sweden. |
