Bird Strike Forces Plane Back To Rochester Airport
(Rochester, NY) -- It wasn't Hero on the Hudson Chesley Sullenberger at the controls but another U.S. Airways pilot had to return to Greater Rochester International Airport because of a bird strike. Airport officials say Flight 1101 bound for Charlotte, North Carolina had to turn back Thursday morning at about 8:30 after hitting a flock of Canada geese. Authorities say it happened about two-thousand feet up and the plane suffered a problem with one of its two engines. The pilot was able to land safely about ten minutes after takeoff. No injuries were reported. Passengers say it was a bit scary but that the pilot did a great job. |
