Governor Paterson Has Not Set Special Election For Massa Seat
(Albany, NY) -- Governor Paterson has not yet committed to a date for a possible special election to fill the now vacant seat held by Congressman Eric Massa. Paterson would only say that he would call for an election "as soon as possible." While the Governor says no one has asked him to call a special election, he says he doesn't think the 29th Congressional District would be left vacant for the rest of the year. Former Corning Mayor Tom Reed, a Republican, has been gaining momentum with the GOP for a possible run, but other candidates are mulling a potential campaign as well. Massa resigned at the beginning of the week after an ethics investigation was launched about his alleged behavior towards a male staffer. However, Massa claims he was pushed out by Democrats because of his views on the healthcare issue. |
