New Poll Says Paterson Should Remain In Office
(Loudonville, NY) -- A new poll finds a majority of New Yorkers believe Governor Paterson should remain in office until the end of his term. The Siena College poll found 55 percent of respondents believe Paterson should not resign when given the option to have Lieutenant Governor Richard Ravitch finish the governor's term. And an even larger majority, 71 percent, would rather see Paterson finish his term than have the state Legislature move to impeach him. The poll also found that a majority of voters believe State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, who could have been a possible primary foe this year for Paterson, will conduct a fair and impartial investigation of the governor amid allegations Paterson interfered with a domestic dispute incident involving one of his aides and broke state ethics codes by accepting World Series tickets from the New York Yankees. However, the poll found that two-thirds of respondents believe an investigation into Paterson should be done by an independent, outside prosecutor, and not Cuomo.< |
