The Clash single "Should I Stay Or Should I Go" hit number one on the UK pop singles chart, nearly ten years after it was released. It saw a resurgence in popularity after it was used in a Levis ad.
In 1997
The Tragically Hip won three Juno awards at Canada's annual ceremony. Alanis Morissette was also a winner.
In 1999
Metallica's album "Kill 'em All" was certified triple Platinum.
In 2000
Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde was arrested and charged with criminal mischief following a PETA protest at a Gap store in New York.
In 2004
The White Stripes' Jack White pled guilty to simple assault and battery in conjunction with a December 2003 incident in which he got into a fight with the Von Bondies singer at a club in Detroit. White was sentenced to probation and required to receive anger management therapy.
In 2005
Former Korn guitarist Brian "Head" Welch returned from Israel, where as part of his recent conversion he took part in a formal baptism ceremony.
Static-X announced that guitarist Koichi Fukuda had rejoined the group. He replaced Tripp Eisen, who the group said needed time to deal with "personal issues." Eisen had been in jail after he was arrested in connection with allegations that he'd had sex with teenage girls in California and New Jersey.
In 2006
System of a Down cancelled plans for a 4th annual "Souls" benefit concert -- just four days after announcing the show. With the event the band wanted to help raise awareness of -- and pay tribute to -- victims of the Armenian Genocide. The group didn't give a reason for scrapping the special gig.
U2 postponed the final portion of its sold-out world tour because of an illness of one of the group's family members. The delay affected the Asia-Pacific leg of the trek.
In 2007
Legendary Los Angeles alt-rock DJ Rodney Bingenheimer received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In 2008
My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero became a married man, tying the knot with longtime girlfriend Jamia Nestor.< |
