Tom Delonge Sees Modlife As New Business Model For Music
The music industry is rapidly changing and Angels & Airwaves frontman Tom DeLonge feels he's ahead of the game with the Modlife online service. The vocalist tells AlternativeAddiction.com, quote, "I kind of look at TV, if people watch a show on NBC they basically are watching for free, but there is a whole business model around it with merchandising and advertising. I see music the same way, give the people the music for free and let the platform surrounding it generate the revenue." As such, the group recently released their "LOVE" album digitally for free.
DeLonge says that he expects the music will draw fans to the Modlife service, which offers concerts, downloadable movies, and interaction with the band in return for a fee. He adds, quote, "What it boils down to is there are all these different options to make money off of and get millions of copies out to the public by offering the music for free." DeLonge says that by launching Modlife, they are trying to put things in motion for what may be the new way things are done in the industry. |
