Rochester Unemployment Hits 20 Year High
(Rochester, NY) -- When it comes to jobs in the Rochester area, the news remains bleak. Rochester's unemployment hit a 20-year high in January. The state Labor Department says the jobless rate climbed to eight-point-seven percent for the first month of this year. That was up from eight-percent in December. For the year 2009 overall, the Rochester region averaged seven-point-nine percent unemployment. That is much worse than the previous high of five-point-six in 2003 and 2008. |
