311 Get Rock-ed
Three-Eleven's "Uplifter" is one of the group's more successful releases of the past decade and they owe a bit of thanks to producer Bob Rock. Singer Nick Hexum credits the producer for getting them out of their comfort zone and breaking some bad habits. The vocalist says Rock is used to working with hard-headed musicians and forced the band into trying something new. Hexum says, quote, "[That's] what you need when you're 19 years in as a band." Bassist P-Nut adds, quote, "He made it increasingly difficult to me to do like a normal recording session. Whereas normally I'd do a couple of takes and be like, 'Nailed it!,' he'd be like, 'No you didn't.'" The bassist says he likes to play by feel, but Rock had him focused on drummer Chad Sexton's parts and the string work of Hexum and Tim Mahoney. P-Nut explains, quote, "It made it a lot more solid on my side, and I think just the cohesivity was a lot more there than normal." Three-Eleven's "Uplifter" is out now. |
