Police Sergeant Guilty In DUI Crash
(Greece, NY) -- A Greece police sergeant has been found guilty of driving under the influence of cocaine and alcohol after a crash last summer. A state judge handed down the verdict after a nine-day non-jury trial of 43-year-old Nicholas Joseph. The judge concluded Joseph had used drugs and alcohol prior to slamming into the back of a stalled vehicle on Route 390 on June 7th. Joseph was off-duty at the time. The impact caused the pregnant driver of the other vehicle to give birth prematurely. Joseph walked away from the crash and went home. He was found guilty of all seven charges, including aggravated vehicular assault, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, perjury and DUI. Joseph faces up to 26 years behind bars. Meanwhile, the Greece town supervisor will call for his firing. The Greece Police Department plans to look into alleged breaches of investigative procedures made on the night of the crash, including several alleged errors in securing evidence.
