Sonnenberg again offers Stained Glass Classes to Community! Workshops begin Wed. Sept. 15 |
| |
Fans of artwork, glass, and handmade crafts are invited to sign-up now for a 6-week workshop to learn how to create stained-glass art. Classes, which are limited to just 15 people per session, will be held from 6-9 pm Wednesday nights, at the Carriage House at Sonnenberg Gardens in Canandaigua, starting Sept. 15 through Oct. 20. Instructor Jim Ingalls, longtime Sonnenberg volunteer and member of the Friends of Sonnenberg committee council, has 11 years experience in the craft and will direct class members as they work on stepping stones, sun catchers, window displays and more.
The fee for the class is $60 per person, and includes materials. The fee may be paid in advance or on the first night of instruction.
To register, and for directions to the Carriage House on Sonnenberg grounds, call 394-4922.
Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park is one of America’s longest surviving estates from the Victorian Era. The elegant Queen Anne-style mansion was built in 1887 in Canandaigua by New York City financier Frederick Ferris Thompson, and his wife, Mary Clark Thompson, as a summer home. Between 1901 and 1920, the widowed Mrs. Thompson and her staff created the nine formal gardens seen today. The grounds are open to the public from mid-May through early October each year. Sonnenberg is a non-profit organization dependent upon the support of members and sponsors and its dedicated corps of volunteers. For more information on the revival of the grand estate on the “sunny hill,” contact Development Manager Lisa Scott at (585) 396-7433.
